Privacy Policy

Who we are

OPEN UP! is a volunteer coalition of Wake County, North Carolina parents organizing for clean air in public school classrooms. We run cleanwcpssair.org. We are not part of, and are not affiliated with, the Wake County Public School System. You can reach us at privacy@cleanwcpssair.org or 1120 Magnolia Bend Loop, Cary, NC 27519.

What we collect

When you sign up on our website, we collect:

• your email address (required);
• your first name and 5-digit ZIP code, if you choose to give them;
• the names of the schools your kids attend, if you choose to give them; and
• the fact that you agreed to our Official Rules and this policy, which version you agreed to, and when you signed up.

If you enter our drawing by email instead, we collect your name and email address. If you win, we ask for an address to deliver the prize.

We do not ask for last names on our form, your street address (unless you win), or your children’s names. We do not collect IP addresses, device identifiers, or browsing history, and we don’t use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies.

Our bot check

To keep automated spam out of our list, our form uses Cloudflare Turnstile. To tell people from bots, Turnstile processes information such as your IP address and signals from your browser and device. Cloudflare says it does not use this information to identify, profile, or target you. Turnstile may use strictly necessary cookies or similar browser storage to work. We never receive or store this information. Learn more in Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy addendum.

How we use your information

• Organizing updates. If you signed up on our website, we email you about OPEN UP! campaigns, meetings, and ways to help.
• Our drawing. We use entries to run the AirFanta 3Pro drawing: checking eligibility, contacting the winner, and delivering the prize.
• Counting support. We count how many families at each school have signed up, and we may use ZIP codes to see which parts of the county and which school board districts our members live in. This lets us show decision-makers how much support clean air has. We share only totals, never names or email addresses.

Who we share it with

We never sell, rent, or trade your information, and we don’t show ads. We share it only in these ways:

• Service providers. Cloudflare hosts this website, stores our signup database, runs our bot check, and forwards mail sent to our @cleanwcpssair.org addresses (Cloudflare Email Routing). We send and receive email with a Gmail / Google Workspace account, so the email addresses we write to, and emails you send us (such as drawing entries and unsubscribe requests), are processed by Google. These companies handle information under their own privacy policies.
• Totals only. When we share numbers with school board members, other officials, or the public, we share totals such as “40 families at this school signed up.” We never report a count smaller than 5 for a single school; smaller numbers are combined. Information we give to public officials may become a public record under North Carolina law, which is one more reason we share only totals.
• When the law requires it. If we are legally required to disclose information, such as by a subpoena, we will tell you first if the law allows.

Cookies, tracking, and Do Not Track

We don’t use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, and we don’t track you across other websites. Because we don’t track anyone, a browser’s Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal has nothing to turn off: we treat every visitor as opted out. No other company collects personal information about you across websites through our site, apart from the Cloudflare security processing described above.

How we protect it

Our website uses HTTPS encryption. Our signup database is stored with Cloudflare and is encrypted at rest. There is no public way to view it: only a small number of organizers can, and their Cloudflare accounts are protected with two-factor authentication. When an organizer downloads a copy of our email list to send a message, they delete the copy when they’re done. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.

How long we keep it

• If you’re on our email list, we keep your information until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
• If you entered our drawing by email, or you unsubscribe, we delete your information, including the emails you sent us, after the drawing is complete, and no later than March 31, 2027. If you unsubscribe after that date, we delete your information right away.
• We delete the winner’s delivery address once the prize is delivered.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe any time using the instructions in any email we send, or by emailing privacy@cleanwcpssair.org. We honor requests within 10 business days. Unsubscribing does not cancel your drawing entry.
• See, correct, or delete your information by emailing privacy@cleanwcpssair.org from the address you signed up with. We respond within 30 days. If you delete your information before the drawing, your entry is withdrawn.

Children

This website is for adults 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. The school names you give us describe your family; we don’t collect them from children.

If something goes wrong

If we learn that someone got unauthorized access to your information, we will promptly email the people affected and tell them what happened and what we are doing about it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we will email the people on our list before it takes effect.
